The Highs and Lows of Being Human In 2022

This year I made a promise to myself I would do all I can to create consistent content and social media posts to promote my website. Whatever the future brings I want to know I did everything in my power and eliminate ‘what ifs’. Therefore, as I was brainstorming ideas, I decided to create a small ‘highlights of 2022’ carousel (multiple images) post. While, as always, I enjoyed the creativity of it and reliving memories that sparked joy, it didn’t feel ‘right’.

There was something off about all my smiling photos because that was only half the story.

Life isn’t a highlight reel.

While I fully believe there is value in focusing on the love and abundance surrounding us each day (#gratitudejournal), if this is all we acknowledge, we are denying the truth of the whole.

We are equal parts joy and sorrow.

This is what being a human is all about.

I share these IG photos with you because I want you to know good things happen but so do crappy ones. Ones that knock you down, leave you breathless, and wondering if you have what it takes to keep going.

For example, my trip to Kenya this year was epic, but so was my subsequent anxiety spiral. Thankfully, I’m in a good spot right now which I don’t take for granted because I do not know how my mental health will hold up in the coming year.

I will take each day as it comes and celebrate the moments and people that matter while meeting myself exactly as I am.

I am someone who loves and is loved, who cries both tears of joy and pain, and who sometimes loses her way but never the hope in her heart.

May you meet yourself as you are and may you honor the whole of all you have lived through this year; blessings, challenges, and all.
