I had already spent several hours contemplating what I wanted to say.
I wanted to get it right.
My fear of making mistakes can lock me in a place of inaction if it remains unchecked. I acknowledged this fear and decided my loving intention may not guarantee success, but this love might shine through my words anyway.

I had called my younger son out to join me on my cherished balcony. Those of you who have entered this space know it is sacred and beautiful to me.

His cross-country race the previous night hadn't gone as planned and I wanted to offer him a fresh perspective. Seated across from me he listened quietly as my words spilled out. I started in one place and then found myself looping unexpectedly into others. By the end of it I wasn't even sure if I made any sense.

In these hazy moments, I am clear about two things. First and foremost I trust my sons to find their way in this world. Secondly, the perspective I offer them is not right or wrong, it's simply a different way to connect to the truth they carry within themselves. It may be helpful, or it may not. I have no control over how they hear it or if it is useful to them.
Over the next few days I continued to think about our interaction. This is when it dawned on me. I didn't have to get what I said 'right', all I had to do was show up.
There's something unseen that happens when we show up for someone else with a loving intention as our guide.
"I am here for you.
I believe in you.
Thank you for being in my life."
Keep showing up for your loved ones. I'll let you in on a little secret; this is how you begin to show up for yourself.
Inward & Onward,
