Five Minutes (Two if It's all You've got)

With our new puppy, Oakley, my life has the faint remembering of my time as a young mother. The 24/7 care of this little guy is my new reality.

1000% worth it❤️

It feels as if all my hard won individuality in recent years has been tossed out the window.

One way I cope with this loss of self is making the conscious choice to put myself first for a few minutes at the beginning of the day. Sometimes, it is the simple act of taking my vitamins before I do anything else to take care of another. Lately, I haven't even been able to do this on most days, but I know I always have tomorrow to try again.

In this practice, consider a small way you could greet your soul side each day.

Here are some examples:

  • Mindful breathing (see also Inhale Sky. Exhale Earth.)

  • Meditation (I recommend Insight Timer. Simply plug in 5 minutes into the app search feature and choose one that speaks to your heart.)

  • Reading a quote:

“…there are no wrong turns, only unexpected paths.”
-Mark Nepo

(I highly recommend Mark Nepo's spiritual day book:

  • Watching the sunrise

  • Thinking of or writing down 3 things you are grateful for

  • Mindful Movement (Try this 5 minute Yoga with Adriene)

Or,

whatever you choose, please make sure you are your first priority of the day.

The truth is our value is determined, not by others, but by the love and care we extend to ourselves.

Start small.

Let this habit grow.

Watch your whole world change for the better.
